A guide for when the unthinkable happens to your VEP tag.
You're cleaning your car, and you accidentally catch the edge of your VEP RFID sticker, causing it to peel. Or worse, you come back to your car to find it has detached and fallen onto your dashboard. It's a moment of panic for any driver who travels to Malaysia.
This is the most important rule. The VEP RFID tag is designed to be tamper-proof. The delicate internal antenna is designed to break if the sticker is removed from the windscreen.
Without a functional RFID tag properly affixed to your windscreen, your Vehicle Entry Permit is considered invalid for the purpose of crossing the border. You cannot legally drive into Malaysia. Do not attempt to enter Malaysia by simply showing your VEP confirmation email; you will be turned away.
You must apply for a replacement through the JPJ VEP portal.
The official replacement process can be slow and requires another trip to Johor Bahru. MyMechanic offers a streamlined, full-service solution to this problem.
