Getting your VEP RFID tag to scan successfully every time comes down to one crucial factor: placement. Here’s how to get it right for your vehicle type.
You’ve successfully applied for your VEP, and your RFID tag has arrived. The final step is installation. But where you stick the tag on your car is more important than you might think. Improper placement is a common reason for detection failures at the gantry, leading to frustrating delays. The optimal position can even differ between vehicle types like SUVs and sedans.
Regardless of your car type, follow these fundamental rules:
For most sedans, the best placement is on the upper left-hand side of the windscreen (passenger side), near the rearview mirror. This position is typically clear of tint and is at a good height for the overhead scanners at the gantry.
Due to their taller windscreens, the placement for SUVs and MPVs can be slightly different. While the upper left side is still a good option, some drivers find that placing the tag slightly lower, but still on the left side, can improve detection rates. The key is to ensure it doesn't obstruct the driver's view and is clear of any sunshades or other attachments.
