A spontaneous weekend trip to Johor Bahru for shopping or a food hunt is one of the great perks of living in Singapore. With your VEP sorted, crossing the border is easier than ever. But a successful trip involves more than just having an active RFID tag. Is your car as ready as you are?

Don't forget this crucial Singaporean regulation. Your petrol tank must be at least three-quarters full when leaving Singapore. Customs officers do conduct checks, and you could face a fine if you fall short.

• Check VEP Status: Log into the JPJ VEP portal to ensure your tag is 'Active'.
• Check eWallet Balance: Open your Touch 'n Go eWallet. Is there at least RM50 to cover the Road Charge and initial tolls?
• Data Roaming/Local SIM: Ensure you have mobile data for navigation and communication.
• Tyre Pressure: Inflate all four tyres to the manufacturer's recommended PSI.
• Tread Depth: Look for visible wear and tear. Balding tyres are extremely dangerous, especially in wet conditions.
