Best VEP RFID Placement on Different Car Models (Sedan, SUV, MPV)

You know the golden rule of VEP RFID placement: top-left corner of the windscreen, at least 5cm from any metal. But does the shape and size of your car—be it a sleek sedan, a tall SUV, or a spacious MPV—change things?

Sedans and hatchbacks typically have moderately sloped windscreens.

• The Sweet Spot: The standard top-left position works perfectly. The key is to ensure the tag is placed on a flat, clear section of the glass, avoiding the black dotted 'frit' area near the edge.
• Common Mistake: Placing the tag too low. The overhead scanners are angled to read the top portion of the windscreen. Placing it too far down can weaken the signal.

SUVs have taller, more upright windscreens, which is generally excellent for RFID scanning.

• The Sweet Spot: You have more vertical space to work with. The ideal position is still the top-left corner. The upright angle provides a very direct line of sight to the overhead scanner.
• Common Mistake: Assuming that any spot on the large windscreen will work. The scanners are still calibrated for the top-left. Placing the tag in the middle or on the driver's side will still cause scan failures.

MPVs often have very large, expansive windscreens.

• The Sweet Spot: The top-left corner remains the rule. On a very large windscreen, it's important not to place it *too* far into the corner, as you still need to be within the scanner's "cone" of reception. The 5cm-from-metal rule is your best guide.
• Common Mistake: Placing the tag behind a built-in sunshade or on a heavily tinted top strip, which are common features on MPVs. The tag must be on a clear section of glass.
